Ever wondered what a scare card or a tilt means when heard in a poker room? Ever wondered about the usage of phrases like "throwing a party" really means when another player mentions it at the poker table? Well, these are just a few of the many poker terms and jargons that we will be discussing in this article in order to help you better understand the various poker terms that are available and commonly used while playing a game of poker.

So here are some examples of poker jargons and their definitions and usage!

Satellite: This term would refer to a tournament wherein the prize would be a free entrance into a much larger tournament.

Scare card: This refers to the card that is dealt facing up and is seen as a card that can create a strong hand for a particular player.

Set-up: This would mean a deck previously ordered, which usually comprises of a King to an Ace by suit. In many casinos, it is oftentimes a custom to make use of a set-up deck of cards upon the introduction of a new deck on the table, where after which, the set-up is then spread for all the players face up in order to demonstrate that every card is present prior to the beginning shuffle. Such an act is also known as "spading the deck".

Shorthanded: Usually, in a poker game, there is nine to ten players in order to have a full ring game, but in the case of the game being "shorthanded", it would mean that only about six players or maybe even less are present round the poker table.

Underdog: This jargon refers to players who have a small chance of winning the poker game as compared to other players.

Underfull: Refers to the lowest full house that is possible in community card games.

Up the ante: This term would refer to the act of increasing the stake in a poker game.
